Embarcadero Center is one of the largest mixed-use complexes in the Western United States, spanning five blocks in the heart of the downtown Financial District. Overlooking the San Francisco Bay, it offers luxury office space, a world-class open-air shopping center, restaurants and beautiful sculptures and landscaping. Property managers set very high goals for sustainability and energy efficiency over four buildings, optimizing HVAC operations during regular usage, but especially during the pandemic when spaces were empty or near empty. Automation, integrated systems and full transparency allowed tenants to make On-Demand requests for HVAC only when needed. The project achieved success while meeting all cybersecurity requirements, resulting in successful partnership between stakeholders and ongoing continual improvements.
