Are 'Open Protocols' for Building Automation Really Open?
For today's diverse range of building automation components to converge and work with each other, they must be able to communicate across a variety of different network and communication protocols. Until recently, equipment manufacturers relied on their own closed, proprietary systems, making it difficult or impossible to integrate those components with other manufacturers. Over the years, dozens of 'open protocols' have developed and been adopted such as BACnet, LonWorks, MODBUS, DALI, etc. But in many cases, manufacturers who claim they are completely 'open' are in fact blocking specific features or requiring the integrator to purchase proprietary tools to facilitate the integrations. The question today is, "Are claimed open protocols real, or hype?" In this webinar we'll explore these challenges and discuss solutions.
