SESSIONS
Defining the Intelligent Building HISTORICALLY and in the PANDEMIC Era
Date: 10/26/2020 Time: 8:00 am - 8:30 am Location: Virtual
Over the last 30 years the concept of a smart building has evolved greatly. We have gone from proprietary closed systems to integrated, interoperable, cloud enabled architectures. We have also gone through phases focusing on energy conservation, sustainability, operating efficiency, financial optimization, occupant experience and now health and wellness with a COVID-19 focus. While the overall strategy for a smart building remains the same, the pandemic has provided many challenges and subsequent opportunities. This session will review strategy and standards for smart buildings, use-cases as contrasted with systems and features and will culminate with a review of best practices, all aligned with the realities of an elusive pandemic.

Expanding IT, Heightened CYBERSECURITY and RISK Management in Times of Crisis
Date: 10/26/2020 Time: 8:45 am - 9:15 am Location: Virtual
In the days of “building automation”, the systems were basic, were not connected, had very little IT interface, did not collect or share data or effectively communicate with each other. Fast forward to 2020 and the day of the IT connected facility has arrived. With this strong reliance on Information Technology (IT), the smart building architecture has become much more sophisticated and subject to more scrutiny and attention to issues such as Cybersecurity. In today’s smart building strategy, IT is the foundation. This session will cover; the backbone (wired and wireless), Cybersecurity fundamentals and remote access to buildings, building systems and cybersecurity policies and finally, exploring the boundaries of risk management.

Operational Efficiency, Health, Sustainability and Occupant Experience in the NEW NORMAL
Date: 10/26/2020 Time: 9:30 am - 10:00 am Location: Virtual
It is becoming more and more clear that the goals for embracing a smart building strategy are wide ranging and comprehensive. It does not make sense to pursue only one goal such as operational efficiency or occupant experience but rather develop a strategy that includes all goals. This provides for a more complete integrated approach as well as a faster path to financial justification. Developing a comprehensive integrated strategy for smart buildings is critical when setting project objective. This session will bring together industry thought leaders to discuss; BAS, Lighting and metering, big data, building analytics and fault detection, AI separating fact from fiction and applications “apps” for building managers, tenants and visitors.

Date: 10/26/2020 Time: 10:15 am - 10:45 am Location: Virtual
The smart building journey is just that, a journey. Each destination or project provides for great learning opportunities and provides the foundation for the next endeavor. It is safe to say that the building of yesterday, disconnected, non-intuitive, unengaging, energy wasting and operationally inefficient is no longer an option. In the final session of the Intelligent Buildings Bootcamp, industry leaders will discuss; the complex and comprehensive nature of Master Systems Integration, the financial realities and strategies as it relates to smart building projects, stakeholders aligned interests, budgets, implementation and management and the strategy for continuing education through Realcomm|IBcon and other industry resources and organizations.
